The new Microsoft Windows Terminal was first unveiled by the company at its Build conference earlier this year. It’s essentially an advanced central location which allows users to access the conventional cmd line, PowerShell as well as the Windows Subsystem for Linux. Microsoft has now made the new Windows Terminal officially available for download today.
Developers have been able to use the code available on GitHub to compile and use the terminal for a few months now, Microsoft has now officially released an installer for the new Terminal which makes it much easier to get it.
The new Windows Terminal from Microsoft brings support for multiple tabs in addition to customization options like themes. This will enable developers to tweak the terminal as per their liking. It’s even going to have support for full GPU-based text rendering as well as emoji.
“The Terminal team is working towards creating a consistent schedule that offers regular previews and more frequent builds for those who want to get access to the latest features as they arrive. Windows Terminal 1.0 will arrive in the Microsoft Store this winter!,” said Kayla Cinnamon, the program manager for Windows Terminal.
The installer for the new Windows Terminal is now available for download from the Windows Store.
