Oddly enough, Mazda has actually been rather quiet about its EV efforts, but that is expected to change soon because the company has confirmed their plans for their first EV that will debut in 2020. This is according to an interview that Mazda’s CEO Akira Marumoto did with Automotive News Europe where he revealed that the company’s first EV will be launching in 2020.
Now to Mazda’s credit, it’s not as if the company has been unwilling to launch an EV. Back in 2017, the company had actually teamed up with Toyota in a bid to help develop EV technology, but now it looks like the company is finally ready to launch an EV of its own, that apparently will be separate of this collaboration. Instead, Mazda claims that this EV will be built using Mazda’s own architecture.
In addition to an EV, Mazda also revealed that they will be launching their own plug-in hybrids that will be coming in 2021 or 2022.
