It makes a lot of sense as to why studios want to recreate video games as TV series or movies. This is because the plot is there, characters are already developed, and there is already a following which more or less guarantees some level of success. However, more often than not, a lot of adaptations tend to fall flat on their faces.
However, this doesn’t seem to have deterred some from trying. The good news is that if you’re a fan of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series, it has been announced that a live-action TV series based on Final Fantasy XIV is in development. This is being developed by Hivemind, whom some of you might be familiar with as the company behind other shows such as The Expanse and also Netflix’s upcoming TV series The Witcher.
This is not the first time that Final Fantasy is being adapted. In the past, we have seen a couple of Final Fantasy adaptations, although those were animations, making this upcoming adaptation the first live-action series we’ll be seeing.
Exactly how close the series will follow the game remains to be seen, but according to the press release, “Inspired directly by the world and characters of the title’s fourteenth installment, the project will embrace the bold and genre-bending sensibilities of the revered and long-running FINAL FANTASY series as it explores the struggle between magic and technology in a quest to bring peace to a land in conflict.”
At this point in time, there is no word on when the series will be released or who has been cast.
