Facebook has been working with blood donation centers across the globe as they use the platform to find potential donors and reach out to them as and when required. Facebook is now expanding its Blood Donations feature to the United States. It’s teaming up with some leading organizations for this in the country.
The organizations include American’s Blood Centers, Inova, the American Red Cross, New York Blood Center, Stanford Blood Center, Rock River Valley Blood Center, Vitalant, and Versiti. The Blood Donations feature is being launched in some urban markets initially before a rollout across the entire country. It will first be available in New York City, Chicago, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Facebook has said that since the Blood Donations feature was launched in 2017 in markets like Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Brazil, more than 35 million people have signed up with blood donation centers in India and Brazil reporting that 20 percent of their donors had been influenced by Facebook to donate blood.
In order to use this feature, users can sign up by visiting the dedicated page from the About section of their profile. They will have to provide Facebook with permission to let them know when blood banks nearby require donations. So when the blood banks are running low, they can use Facebook to alert donors nearby.
