An Indonesian Couple Has Named Their Baby ‘Google’

These days we’re starting to see people name their babies after characters they see in movies or television. For example, names from HBO’s Game of Thrones has proven to be a pretty popular choice, although it seems that a couple from Indonesia have decided to name their baby after one of the biggest tech companies in the world: Google.

Yup, you heard that right, this couple has officially and legally named their baby boy “Google”. Nope, there is no last name which means that just like Cher, Google is the baby’s only name. Born to 31-year-old Andi Cahya Saputra and 27-year-old Ella Karina from West Java back in November last year, the couple revealed that they had actually planned on calling him other tech-related names, such as Microsoft, iPhone, iOS, and Windows, just to name a few.

However, according to the baby’s father, “I told my father, Pak, Google has a great meaning, because I hope Google can help many people, become a useful person to others.” He has also since responded to critics who claimed that this was done in hopes of getting some kind of financial compensation from maybe Google.

“Some even said [I named my son Google] to get financial compensation, or that my son would be recruited by Google in the future, or gets his schooling paid for by Google.” Regardless of his reasoning, we imagine that the kid might have a hard time in school given how ubiquitous Google is.
