The current storyline of Blizzard’s Starcraft franchise officially came to a close a couple of years ago. There is no doubt a ton of love for the Starcraft series, and so many are wondering what Blizzard might have planned for the future of the series. It turns out that Blizzard was developing a first-person shooter based on the Starcraft universe.
We say “was” because according to a report from Kotaku, it seems that Blizzard has decided to cancel the project. The project was said to have been in development for the past two years and was described as similar to Battlefield, but set in the Starcraft universe. Apparently Blizzard decided that it wasn’t high-priority enough and chose to use those resources and put them towards games such as Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2.
In response to the report, Blizzard issued a statement that reads, “We always make decisions about these things, regardless of the ultimate outcome or how things might be interpreted, based on our values, what we believe makes sense for Blizzard, and what we hope our players will enjoy the most.”
It was reported last year that Diablo 4 was almost announced at BlizzCon 2019, although the developer denied it. Some analysts have predicted that Blizzard would be choosing to launch Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 in 2020, and if so, it makes sense that they would be pooling their resources to those games.
