Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series is widely-regarded as one of the best mashups as far as fighting games are concerned. The franchise has not only brought a ton of Nintendo characters from varying franchises together, but it has also brought in characters from non-Nintendo games.
This is why it doesn’t come as a complete shocker to learn that during E3 2019, Nintendo announced that the next set of characters that will be introduced to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will be none other than Banjo and Kazooie. For those unfamiliar, Banjo-Kazooie was a game released back on the N64 console in 1998.
This kind of makes it a Nintendo game, but a later remaster of the game for the Xbox 360 gave Microsoft the rights to the characters. In fact, it was back in 2018 that someone had asked Microsoft’s Xbox boss Phil Spencer if he was open to the idea of Banjo and Kazooie making an appearance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, in which Spencer replied in the affirmative.

So if you grew up playing Banjo-Kazooie on the N64 or if you played the remastered version of the game on the Xbox 360, then these characters could be worth looking forward to when they arrive for the game this fall as part of the Fighter’s Pass. In the meantime, you can check out a bit of their gameplay in the video above.
