The upcoming major update for the Apple Watch, watchOS 6, brings a variety of new features for the platform. For example, it adds an App Store to the Apple Watch for the first time. The wearable device may become further independent of the iPhone as watchOS 6 looks set to bring software updates direct to the Apple Watch. However, there’s going to be a ceveat.
Users will be able to begin the process of getting an update on their Apple Watch right from their wrist. However, they will be required to use the iPhone to actually begin the process. That’s because users will be required to accept the terms and conditions of the update on their iPhone.
Even though the ultimate result is having to unlock the Phone and use the iOS Watch app, users are currently required to open the app even if they just want to check if a software update is available for this watch. After watchOS 6, they will be able to begin the installation process from the Apple Watch itself but will be required to accept the terms and conditions from their iPhone.
Apple is due to release watchOS 6 later this year. It will most likely be released in the fall.
