It looks like it was a good idea for a feature because according to a report from News Center Maine, it might have saved the life of an 87-year old woman by the name Dotty White. According to the report, White was on the way home from grocery shopping when a driver ran straight into her.
She could not reach her phone to call for help but since the Apple Watch had detected the accident as a fall, it alerted first responders as well as her family members. According to White, “The watch dialed my son in Florida, it dialed my daughter in Massachusetts and my daughter in Maine. So they knew something had happened and they knew where it happened.”
Thankfully the accident wasn’t particularly serious with White sustaining a couple of broken bones. She has since expressed her gratefulness for her Apple Watch, “It’s pretty nice to just have it on your wrist. You have the time, the weather and help.” This is not the first time we’re hearing about fall detection saving a life, and more recently we’ve also heard about how the Apple Watch’s ECG feature had also saved a life.
