This is according to developer Steve Moser who spotted evidence inside the code of the “Find My” app where the device was mentioned as “Tag1,1”. It isn’t surprising that if there is evidence to be found, that it would appear in the app. For those who are unfamiliar, the Find My app is a new app from Apple that was announced that WWDC 2019.
It combines several of Apple’s Find My apps into a single app, which is why we said it’s not surprising that Apple could use it for its tracker accessory. At the moment, not much is known about Apple’s tracking accessory, but we imagine that it probably shouldn’t be too different from devices like Tile, where it uses Bluetooth to keep itself in range with whatever you’ve paired it with.
It will then let you know when a device goes out of range or it will help you locate missing items that is attached to it as long as it is within the area. Perhaps Apple could launch it later in the year alongside their new iPhones, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled.
