At WWDC 2019, the company took the wraps off the Pro Display XDR, the company’s latest display. This doesn’t really come as a complete shocker because prior to this, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had already predicted that Apple could have a new display in the works, and sure enough that prediction has come through.
The Pro Display XDR has a 32-inch screen and features a whopping 6K resolution. We imagine that not many people will need such a high-resolution display, but as its name implies, this is designated for the “pros”.
According to Apple, “Pro Display XDR uses a direct backlighting system with a large array of LEDs that produce 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness and 1,600 nits of peak brightness, far surpassing that of a typical display. With an advanced thermal system that uses its aluminum lattice pattern as a heat sink, Pro Display XDR can sustain 1,000 nits of full-screen brightness indefinitely, something that has never been possible before on a display at this price point.”
Unfortunately, a “pro” display comes with a “pro” price as the Pro Display XDR is priced at a staggering $4,999. There will be a separate Pro Stand sold for $999 which allows users more customization when it comes to height and tilt adjustment. The Pro Display XDR is currently set for a release in the fall of 2019.
