Speaking with French website Numerama, Apple’s iTunes chief Eddy Cue has confirmed that as of today, Apple Music has over 60 million paid subscribers. It would not be very difficult for Apple to achieve those numbers as Apple Music sort of comes bundled with every iOS device, and all users need to do is activate a subscription to start using it.
This is versus third-party streaming services in which users will need to download the app and sign up for an account, so the fact that it is bundled does remove some of the hurdles. To give you some context, it was last reported that Spotify had about 100 million paid subscribers as of April, so it looks like Apple Music still has some catching up to do.
Apple is also expected to revamp the way users access Apple Music in its upcoming macOS Catalina update. This is because Apple will be breaking up its iTunes app where there will now be a dedicated Music app where users can access their music library as well as Apple Music in a cleaner and simpler interface.
