Airbnb would much rather you use its platform to find temporary housing on your next vacation instead of staying in a hotel. The platform has evolved into much more than just one that lets you find a space to stay. You can book a variety of experiences through the app to get more immersed in local life. It’s now introducing something for the thrill seekers. With Airbnb Adventures, you can embark on tours and trips of between three days and a week which are above and beyond the usual city walking tour that you’d find in the experiences tab.
For example, there’s a three-day adventure which takes you on a discovery of the villages in northern Thailand for $435 per person. The trip cost includes equipment, transportation, drinks, accommodations, and food.
Airbnb isn’t running these excursions by itself. It’s actually sourcing them from local tour companies and experts. It has also engaged a third-party to verify the certifications that are required for certain types of activities in a safe manner.
It’s yet another way for the company to generate revenue over and above its core product which is to connect people with visitors who are looking to rent a room or an entire apartment/house temporarily.
