The range of EVs has since improved considerably over the years, and if you’re a fan of Tesla, you might be interested to learn that the company could have an EV with a 400-mile range in the works. During a shareholders’ meeting on Tuesday, the company’s CEO Elon Musk was quoted as saying, “It won’t be long before we have a 400-mile range car.”
At the moment, the Tesla Model 3 is capable of achieving a range of up to 310 miles on a single charge, while the Model S with the longest range is capable of going up to 370 miles. It is also expected that the upcoming second-gen Roadster could reach up to 620 miles. It is unclear if Musk’s statement was to indicate that a new model is coming with a 400 mile range, or if they will be issuing an update to its cars that could extend its range.
This is not the first time we’ve seen Tesla explore the idea of vehicles with a longer range. Many years ago, the company had filed a patent for a battery pack that would give its vehicles a range of up to 400 miles.
