WhatsApp is the most popular cross-platform messaging service. You can bet that a lot of people who still use older devices continue to rely on WhatsApp to stay in touch with their friends and family. However, those who use the service on a Windows Phone might want to take not. That’s because the WhatsApp Windows Phone support will end later this year.
The Facebook-owned company has confirmed that it will cease to support Windows Phone from December 31st, 2019. This is when WhatsApp for Windows Phone stops working. The same will be the case for older versions of Android and iOS starting next year.
It’s no surprise that WhatsApp has decided to end support for the Windows Phone version of its service before 2020 begins. That’s because it’s also when Microsoft ends support for its forgotten mobile operating system.
As for the other OS versions, devices that are running Android version 2.3.7 and older will no longer be able to use WhatsApp starting February 1st, 2020. Any devices that run on IOS 7 and older will no longer be compatible with WhatsApp after that date as well. There will be no new development of the app for these platforms. Those who wish to continue using WhatsApp may just have to upgrade their phones to a relatively newer model.
