A Samsung Galaxy S10 5G In Korea Has Caught On Fire

We imagine that the snafu with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 catching on fire is probably still quite a sore spot for Samsung, and that the company has definitely learnt from their mistakes. However, we’re sure we can’t be the only ones to start feeling a bit uneasy whenever we hear reports about Samsung phones catching on fire.

Unfortunately, this is pretty much what has happened over in South Korea where in a report from AFP, a South Korean man claimed that his brand new Samsung Galaxy S10 5G had caught on fire seemingly out of the blue. Speaking to AFP, the man identified as Lee, said, “My phone was on the table when it started smelling burnt and smoke soon engulfed the phone. I had to drop it to the ground when I touched it because it was so hot.”

Now to be fair, we don’t think that we’re looking at another Note 7 battery incident, although how exactly the phone caught on fire is still unclear. Unfortunately for Lee, it seems that Samsung is not taking any responsibility for the device catching on fire and would not be reimbursing him for his damaged handset.

The company told AFP that this was not a malfunctioning device, but rather the result of the phone experiencing an “external impact”. This suggests that the phone might have been either dropped or hit hard enough to cause the battery in the device to swell, explode, and catch on fire.
