Google has really embraced the dark mode for its mobile apps recently. It has already brought the dark theme to apps like Messages, Calculator, Contacts, and Keep so it’s not surprising to see that similar treating is now being meted out to Google Calendar. That app has now been updated with a dark mode as well.
Google’s newfound appreciation for the dark theme goes beyond updates for its native applications. The company has also built a system-wide dark mode for Android Q. The new Android OS update will be rolling out later this year and it will bring a native dark theme to all compatible Android devices.
The Google Calendar app retains all of its existing functionality so the only change worth talking about in this update is obviously the dark theme. It’s certainly a lot easier on the eyes and is going to contribute to battery efficiency as well, particularly on smartphones with OLED displays. Not to mention the fact that the dark theme looks much nicer as well.
The latest Google Calendar update is now rolling out. It should take some time before the update is available to all users but at least users can now rest assured that they will soon be able to enable the dark mode even in Calendar.
