iPhone and Apple Watch owners in the United States can now use the Express Transit functionality of their devices for the first time in the United States. Portland has become the first city in the entire country to offer integration for the Apple Pay Express Transit feature. They will be able to use it to board the TriMet and C-Tran buses, MAX light rail trains, and the Portland Streetcar in the Portland-Vancouver area.
Apple Pay Express Transit is available in other cities across the globe, including cities in Japan and China. Portland has became the first city in the United States to offer integration for this feature.
TriMet and C-Tran have confirmed the immediate Apple Wallet integration of the Hop Fastpass, the app-enabled version of the pass to be precise, which is the ubiquitous transit fare card in the Portland-Vancouver area.
Hop Fastpass has support for the Express Transit technology which means that iPhone and Apple Watch owners can make touchless transactions on terminals without having to unlock or even wake up their device. It would really speed up things during rush hour particularly.
“Apple Pay transforms everyday experiences and we’re thrilled Portland-Vancouver residents will now be able to go quickly through their daily commute with just their iPhone and Apple Watch,” said Apple Pay boss Jennifer Bailey.
