The report claims that this laptop will feature a 16-inch all-screen OLED display and if you’re wondering why this sounds familiar, it is because earlier this year, notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claimed that a 16-inch MacBook Pro could be in the works for 2019. However, at that time, the report did not mention anything about an OLED screen, so this is a new development.
While the report does not explicitly mention an edge-to-edge display, BGR speculates that the size of the laptop could be the same size as the 15.6-inch model, meaning that we can expect the screen to stretch out to the sides even more. This is similar to the current iPhone XS Max, where its size is roughly similar to that of the “Plus” models in the past, thanks to the display stretched to the edge of the device.
Apple has recently made the shift to OLED for its iPhones with the iPhone X back in 2017. The company is expected to move forwards with 100% OLED iPhones in the future. Apple’s MacBooks also use OLED, but only in the Touch Bar portion of the laptop. If this report pans out, this could be Apple’s first OLED laptop.
It has also been reported that Samsung could be the one to supply Apple with said displays, which isn’t surprising as Samsung is one of the biggest suppliers of OLED display panels at the moment.
