An Uber driver has been taken into custody as he’s believed to have allegedly returned to rob a customer’s home after dropping them off at a local airport. The driver immediately attempted to rob the customer’s San Mateo home after dropping them at the airport. He drove straight back to their address from the airport but the effort was thwarted by the homeowner’s Ring security system.
According to local media reports, the driver had gone back to the passenger’s home with the intention of burglarizing it. The police say that the attempt couldn’t go through as the Ring security camera caught him in action and the alarm system went off.
While the passenger may have been lucky, a nearby resident wasn’t. That homeowner found their home “completely ransacked” even though they also had a Ring security system. The owners then uploaded the video to a Ring community sharing platform which helped identify the man as an Uber driver.
The police were able to locate the driver the following day in Rancho Cordova. They found him wearing the same clothes as had appeared in the Ring security videos. He was also in possession of several items that were taken from the burgled home.
