The problem with most prosthetics is that they can be expensive, not to mention that they also don’t look particularly interesting. However, the latter is more of a design choice where function is usually chosen over form, but that’s where a company by the name of Open Bionics made a name for themselves.
The company has over the years created affordable prosthetics using 3D printing known as the Hero Arm, but unfortunately, these prosthetics were only available in the UK and France. The good news is that Open Bionics has finally brought its tech stateside where those living in the US who need upper body limbs will be able to purchase them.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Hero Arm, like we said, the upside to them over regular prosthetics is that they are made using 3D scanning and printing, meaning that each product has been customized for each wearer. It is also relatively light where all of the combined sensors and innards results in a prosthetic that weighs less than 1 kg.
