Nintendo’s future felt a bit murky during the era of the Wii U, where Nintendo was attempting to build on the success of the Wii with an updated model with newer features. Unfortunately, it never quite took and it felt like Nintendo might just drop out of the console race entirely. However, the company managed to successfully rally with the Nintendo Switch.

Not only has the Switch sold pretty well, but it has also managed to surpass the Wii U’s lifetime sales and there are no signs that it is slowing down. This is because according to Nintendo’s latest financials, it has been revealed that the Switch has also managed to surpass another Nintendo console, this time in the form of the N64.

The Switch’s lifetime sales is currently at 34.74 million units sold, which is an increase of 2.47 million units from the previous quarter, allowing the console to overtake the N64. This means that the next Nintendo console on the list is the SNES which managed 49.1 million units over its lifetime, but it remains to be seen if Nintendo can manage to squeeze out another 15 million units.

That being said, there is a good chance that they could. This is because there are rumors that Nintendo could have a cheaper Switch model in the works that might launch by the end of June, as well as an upgraded model that is set for a launch this year, both of which could help drive the sales of the Switch family.
