Netflix is going to make its presence felt in New York in a significant way. The online streaming giant has confirmed that it’s going to invest $100 million to build a production hub in New York. It will also be hiring hundreds of new staffers in the process, a statement from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo reiterated.
The company’s new production hub will span a new Manhattan office with six sound stages in Brooklyn which will create hundreds of new executive positions and thousands of production crew jobs in New York over the next five years. Some of the hit shows that the company already products in New York include Orange Is the New Black, Private Life, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and others.
“New York has created a film-friendly environment that’s home to some of the best creative and executive talent in the world, and we’re excited to provide a place for them at Netflix with our production hub,” said Netflix’s director of Worldwide Studio Operations & Real Estate, Jason Hariton.
The new offices that Netflix has planned will occupy 100,000 square feet in Manhattan at 888 Broadway. Netflix currently has 32 employees in New York and this expansion will add 127 new executive development, production, content acquisition, legal, publicity, and other positions.
