This is according to a report from The New York Times (via AppleInsider) who claims that within the first 48 hours of the service going live, Apple managed to rack up around 200,000 subscriptions. These aren’t official figures so it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt for now, but if it is true, then it is pretty impressive.
This is also allegedly more than what Texture had at its peak. For those unfamiliar, Texture was a magazine subscription service that was dubbed as the Netflix for magazines. Apple had acquired the service back in 2018 where it sparked many rumors and speculation that Apple could be looking to launch a similar service of their own.
We should also point out that Apple News+ has yet to launch worldwide, which means that 200,000 subscribers in the first 48 hours for the US market is actually pretty good. Whether or not Apple can maintain their momentum remains to be seen, but for now it looks like it’s off to a good start.
