Adidas Futurecraft Loop Is A Shoe That Is Completely Recyclable

As we are starting to look towards a more sustainable future, we’re starting to see companies take the initiative, such as Starbucks who will no longer provide straws to customer to cut down on the amount of plastic that we use. However, if there is one industry that we might not necessarily think too much about, it would be shoes.

More often than not, we just toss our old and broken shoes away without giving them too much thought, but that’s a mindset that Adidas wants to change and they have since unveiled the Futurecraft Loop. These are a pair of shoes that are completely recyclable, thanks to the use of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) in which the majority of the shoe is made from.

According to the company, this means that when you’re done with the shoes, it can be sent back to Adidas where they will then repurpose the material and make a new pair of shoes with them. This is versus having to produce new materials for each and every pair. “Once the shoes come to the end of their first life and are returned to adidas – they are washed, ground to pellets and melted into material for components for a new pair of shoes, with zero waste and nothing thrown away.”

[FUTURECRAFT.LOOP] - Made To Be Remade

Adidas has been working on this concept for the past 6 years or so, and it is not the company’s first attempt either. Previously we had seen Adidas launch shoes that are partially made out of ocean plastic in a bid to help make the most of a bad situation. Unfortunately, the Futurecraft Loop shoes will not be available anytime soon and it will only launch in 2021.
