Xiaomi To Launch Black Shark 2 Gaming Phone On March 18th

It has been known for a while now that Xiaomi has a new gaming smartphone in the pipeline. It’s the successor to the first Xiaomi Black Shark and will most likely be called the Black Shark 2. The company has now officially confirmed that this handset will be unveiled on March 18th in China.

The confirmation comes through a teaser that the company posted on Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter, earlier today. It confirms that the second-generation gaming smartphone will be launched on March 18th.

Reports suggest that this handset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform in addition to at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. That’s standard fare for any high-end device in 2019. There may also be another configuration with 256GB storage and 12GB of RAM. Like the existing Black Shark Helo, there may also be a variant which has 10GB of RAM.

Other than that, not much is known about this device right now. We can expect that Xiaomi will make improvements to the cooling system since smartphones tend to heat up during intense gaming sessions. There may also be a chunky battery so expect a capacity of at least 4,000mAh. Xiaomi may only make the device available in China initially before rolling it out in other markets across Europe.
