The Samsung Galaxy Fold is an interesting device and seems like it has the potential to usher in a new era of smartphone design and functionality. However while it does hold potential, it is still a bit “out there”, not to mention its asking price of $1,980 puts the phone well out of the reach of many customers.

However if you don’t mind being an early adopter and dropping close to $2,000 for a smartphone, then you might be interested to learn that Samsung has confirmed that the phone will be opening for pre-orders on the 26th of April. This is the same date for Europe and the US so both regions will be able to pre-order it at the same time. It is also expected to be released on the 3rd of May.

That being said, don’t expect to be able to go to a Samsung store and try the phone for yourself. This is because Samsung had previously stated that they want to control the retail experience, meaning that a readily-available demo might not be found. Instead Samsung wants to create a more luxurious shopping experience, kind of like how Apple did when they launched their Apple Watch Edition years ago.

It remains to be seen how well the Samsung Galaxy Fold will do, especially since it has both price and new technology going against it, but we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, any of our readers planning on going out and placing a pre-order of their own?
