As some of you might be aware, Nikon is trying their hand at mirrorless cameras once again. In 2018 the company launched the Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras that have since been met with good reviews, but they aren’t the cheapest cameras around either. However according to a report from Nikon Rumors, the company could be planning an entry-level unit.
The publication has managed to get their hands on what appears to be a leaked photo of the Nikon Z1, the company’s rumored entry-level mirrorless camera. As you can see from the image, which shows the top portion of the camera, it is very different from Nikon’s Z6 and Z7 cameras. It looks a lot more “basic” and simple compared to the other cameras, suggesting that it might be less feature packed in order to try and keep costs down.
There is no word on how much the camera could cost, but by comparison, the Nikon Z6 is priced at $2,000 for body-only, while the Z7 is priced at $3,400 for body-only, so we can only assume (and hope) that the Z1 will be below those prices. Canon themselves have also launched an entry-level mirrorless camera in the form of the EOS RP, so it stands to reason that Nikon might have something as well.
We have no idea when the camera will be launched but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information in the future.
