It has been a while since a main Sonic game was released. Fans of the iconic character can rejoice because it has now been confirmed that a new Sonic game has entered development. The confirmation came from Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka at the SXSW Sonic panel this weekend. He said that the studio has “begun production” on the next major Sonic the Hedgehog title.
The main topic of discussion for the panel was the upcoming Sonic kart racing title Team Sonic Racing which is going to be released in May. Lizuka did share some information towards the close of the panel about the status of the next main Sonic title.
He didn’t reveal a lot of information, though, only saying that the Sonic Team “have begun production on the next major Sonic title.” He added that the team “will be excited to share more news with you in the future, but for now, thank you for your patience until we have something to show.”
This suggests that it may be a while before the team reveals the title. Whether or not that happens in 2019 remains to be seen. There’s also no information on when this game is going to be released so fans still have to sit tight and wait patiently.
