According to a tweet by Facebook, the company wrote, “Yesterday, as a result of a server configuration change, many people had trouble accessing our apps and services. We’ve now resolved the issues and our systems are recovering. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience.”
So far it seems that everything is back to normal, so if you do rely heavily on WhatsApp or Instagram, you should not have any issues using those services now. That being said, Facebook doesn’t encounter outages very often. In fact such outages tend to be rare and far in between, but given how many products and services rely on Facebook and how many users they have, even an outage of 15 minutes can be felt all around the world.
However this particular instance seems to have been rather lengthy as according to CNN, it lasted for over 14 hours.
