Most of us use some form of access control on our devices, be it a fingerprint or PIN, but if you’d like to have an additional layer of security for WhatsApp on your iOS device, you can now lock it with Face ID or Touch ID. The available method will obviously depend on the kind of iPhone that you have since Face ID isn’t available on legacy models.
Facebook-owned WhatsApp has released a new update for its iOS app that brings support for biometric authentication. This feature lets users lock WhatsApp on their iPhone using Face ID or Touch ID. This doesn’t work on a per-chat basis so it’s either the entire app that’s locked behind this feature or nothing at all.
Make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp for iOS which is 2.19.20. This feature can then be accessed from the Privacy menu of the Account section in the Settings app. Even if this feature is enabled, users will be able to view WhatsApp notifications if they have message previews enabled. They will also be able to quick reply through notifications in iOS but the full app won’t be opened unless the authentication process is passed.
The latest version of WhatsApp for iOS is now available for download from the App Store.
