In a report from Reuters, it seems that Swatch is accusing Samsung of infringing on their trademark when it comes to some of the company’s watch faces used in its smartwatches. The Swiss watchmaker alleges that Samsung’s watch faces “bear identical or virtually identical marks” to the trademarks that they own, which includes brands such as Longines, Omega, Swatch, and Tissot.
According to the company, “This unabashed copying of the Trademarks can have only one purpose – to trade off the fame, reputation, and goodwill of the Swatch Group Companies’ products and marks built painstakingly over decades.” Samsung has yet to officially respond to the lawsuit or issue a comment.
That being said, this isn’t the first time that a company has been sued for using the watch designs of another company. Several years ago, Apple had been accused of ripping off the Swiss Federal Railways’ clock design, a mistake which cost the company $21 million.
