Qualcomm Reportedly Developing Low-Cost SoC For Android Go Devices

One of the ways that Android Go devices have managed to keep its costs down is by using lower-end hardware which is generally cheaper compared to more powerful hardware. It seems that Qualcomm could be trying to capitalize on that particular market because according to a report from WinFuture, the company might be testing out low-cost SoCs designed specifically for android Go devices.

This will reportedly come in the form of the QM215 chipset which is said to be a quad-core chipset clocked at 1.3GHz, and will feature a 650MHz graphics unit. It is also expected to fall somewhere between the Snapdragon 410 and the 425, and will support up to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

It is unclear as to what differences there might be with this QM215 chipset versus Qualcomm’s other lower-end offerings. Perhaps it could be cheaper, or maybe it could be more efficient which could help these Android Go handsets squeeze out a bit more performance than before. Granted it might not be the most glamorous chipset compared to their flagship Snapdragon 855, but given how big the developing market is and how Android Go would fulfill the needs of that market, it would be unwise for Qualcomm to ignore it.

There is no word on which phone might be taking advantage of the QM215 but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
