The Macan is Porsche’s best-selling SUV and the company is going to make a significant change to the next-generation model which will position it as a compelling option for customers who are looking to go electric. The German auto manufacturer has said that it’s going to electrify the next version of the Macan which will make the vehicle its first all-electric compact SUV.
Porsche sold more than 90,000 units of the Macan last year and it was undoubtedly the company’s best-selling vehicle. One of the reasons why this vehicle has been so popular is that the starting price is more affordable than most Porsches at just under $48,000. It will take some time before the all-electric version will be available, though, with Porsche saying that it will enter production “early in the next decade.”
Porsche is no stranger to electric vehicles. The new Macan will actually be the third EV in its lineup that already includes the Taycan sedan and the Cross Turismo. Those vehicles are due to enter production in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
The company is going to build this EV at its Leipzig factory that’s being converted into a manufacturing plant for all-electric vehicles. Porsche didn’t reveal any technical details so it’s unclear how much the power and battery life is going to be. There’s obviously no word as yet on the price tag as well.
