Nowadays it’s becoming increasingly common to see smartphones that support wireless charging. Unfortunately that seems to be a feature that OnePlus has skipped out on over the years, and if you were hoping that 2019 would change things, think again because OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the phone will not be featuring wireless charging.

This is according to an interview that Lau did with CNET where he was quoted as saying, “OnePlus charging is one of the best. Wireless charging is far inferior.” At the moment OnePlus already offers its own take on fast charging, and Lau does have a point in mentioning that wireless charging is “inferior”.

This is because for the most part, wireless charging is still slower compared to wired. The upside to wireless is that it charges without the need to plug or unplug your device, making it easier. That being said, while Lau seems to be dismissive of current wireless charging technology, it does not mean that they will be skipping wireless charging completely.

According to Lau, the company is working on its own wireless charging tech that will be capable of delivering more power. Lau does not know when their wireless charging tech will be ready, but in the meantime it seems that the OnePlus 7 will be passing on wireless charging and that we most likely will have to wait until 2020 for the feature.
