It was then speculated that Jessica Jones and The Punisher were next on the chopping block, and as it turns out the speculation was true. According to Deadline, Netflix has officially announced that The Punisher will not be getting a third season and that Jessica Jones will not be renewed for a fourth. The latter is currently in production for its third season and hopefully, it will wrap up nicely instead of leaving viewers hanging.
According to Netflix, “In addition, in reviewing our Marvel programming, we have decided that the upcoming third season will also be the final season for Marvel’s Jessica Jones. We are grateful to showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, star Krysten Ritter and the entire cast and crew, for three incredible seasons of this groundbreaking series, which was recognized by the Peabody Awards among many others.”
It is unclear why Netflix is trying to rid itself of its Marvel shows. It was previously reported that Marvel and Netflix have a deal in place where characters from their shows can’t be used for at least 2 years after their cancellation. Perhaps this might have something to do with that, but either way, we’re sure that fans will miss the series.
