Honor 5G Phone To Arrive In The Second Half Of This Year

Huawei will soon be jumping on the 5G bandwagon as well with a flagship smartphone and its sub-brand Honor has 5G ambitions of its own. The company has revealed that it’s going to release a smartphone in the second half of this year which will be able to take advantage of the next-generation mobile networks.

Honor president George Zhao confirmed in a group interview recently that the company is developing a 5G smartphone, mentioning the possibility that the device might arrive in the second half of this year. The specifics remain a mystery, though, as he didn’t say which device will be the first to get 5G. “When and which model depends on the operators’ infrastructure and progress,” he added.

This isn’t the first time that Zhao has talked about Honor launching a 5G smartphone. He had said in September last year that the company would launch a compatible device in 2019 and that it would be the first. However, other manufacturers have announced their own 5G phone plans since then.

Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see which markets get Honor’s 5G smartphone, given that its parent company Huawei isn’t really that welcome in the United States. 5G networks will be going live in other countries in the coming months, though, including the likes of South Korea.
