At the moment as it stands, Google Maps has an option for users to delete their location history. However this is a completely manual process and is a feature in the settings that might not always be obvious to users, but an APK teardown by the folks at 9to5Google has revealed a feature in an upcoming update that will automatically delete location history.
At the moment not much is known about the feature, but the discovery within the APK has revealed that it will be an automated process where it will “continuously” delete location history for a particular Google account. However it does not state how often this deletion will happen, but it seems that users will be able to control exactly how much of their location history they want to keep and how much to delete.
This could be a good feature for users who want to automatically clear their location history from time to time without having to think about it. In the meantime if you’d like Google to stop tracking you completely, you can check out our guide here.
