So far US allies such as Australia and Japan have banned the use of Huawei’s equipment for their 5G networks, but it also appears that not everyone shares the US’ sentiments about Huawei. In a report from The Wall Street Journal, it appears that Germany is considering using Huawei’s equipment for the country’s 5G network.
This isn’t a done deal yet, but unlike the other countries that have outright banned the use of Huawei’s equipment, German officials have made a preliminary decision to allow Huawei bid on 5G contracts. This means that whether or not Germany goes ahead with Huawei’s equipment will depend on Huawei’s proposals.
Germany is actually not alone in this as the UK has also recently suggested that the banning of Huawei’s technology isn’t necessary. German officials also add that based on their own investigations, they haven’t found evidence that Huawei has done anything wrong, and that conversations with the US and UK over security issues were “inconclusive”.
