Epic’s Fortnite has stood tall over the other battle royale titles over the past year but now it faces competition from a new rival which is quickly racking up millions of players: Respawn’s Apex Legends. To ensure that players remain loyal to Fortnite, Epic is using the time tested strategy of giving away stuff for free.
Epic Games mentions in the v7.40 patch notes that players who complete 13 “Overtime” challenges will be able to get the Season 8 Battle Pass for free. It normally costs 950 V-Bucks which is around $10 in real money.
The battle pass brings 100 in-game rewards which include weapon customizations, skins, emotes, and more. Epic is giving players until February 27th to complete all of the challenges if they want to win the pass for free.
This is a good move on the developer’s part to reignite interest in the title as there are no new weekly challenges on offer with the Season 7 Battle Pass as the new season content is due in two weeks. These Overtime challenges will give players the opportunity to win in-game items but also keep them hooked to the game and possibly not too focused on Apex Legends.
The patch notes also mention that the game now has a new semi-automatic Infantry Rifle and both the Rocket Launcher and Hand Cannon have been nerfed.
