This is according to a report from Axios (via 9to5Mac) who claims to have heard from several developers and even Intel officials who claim that Apple might make the transition as early as next year. This report actually echoes a report from late last year where notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple’s ARM based computers could launch in 2020 or 2021.
If this is true, it will be interesting to see how well the ARM powered chipsets hold up against Intel’s chipsets. In fact we might have actually gotten a hint of how powerful Apple’s ARM chipsets are. The new A-series chipsets powering the newer iPhones have proven in benchmarks to come pretty close to desktop performance, so we imagine that with more work and tweaking, they could perform just as well (if not better) than Intel’s chipsets.
Take this report with a grain of salt for now, but we will probably still have to wait a bit before we can see Apple’s ARM Mac computers debut.
