The problem with Apple’s walled garden approach is that it makes it hard to buy outside products and accessories. Take for example speaker systems such as Sonos where at the start, Apple Music was not supported (it is now). While you could stream it through Bluetooth, it wasn’t integrated the same way as other services such as Spotify.
For those who do not own a Sonos sound system and are instead using Google Home, you could be in luck because according to MacRumors reader Jason, he spotted an image on the Google Home app for iOS where it seems to have listed Apple Music was one of the streaming services supported by the speaker.
While the option is there, unfortunately it seems that users will not be able to link their account to their Google Home device just yet, but the fact that it is there suggests that it could be coming soon. Similar to the case with Sonos, users can still use Google Home as a set of Bluetooth speakers and stream Apple Music through it via a device like their smartphone or tablet.
However integration with Apple Music means that users will have a greater degree of control through the smart speaker itself where we imagine that it could be used with other features and services. No word on when the integration is expected to roll out, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled.
