Xiaomi’s Redmi Releases $150 Note 7 With 48 Megapixel Camera

Xiaomi is already known for its feature packed devices that offer great value for money. Its Redmi series has been particularly popular in markets across Asia for precisely this purpose. With Redmi now being spun off into an independent brand, it seems that Xiaomi will use it to launch even more aggressively priced devices. Case in point the newly announced Redmi Note 7. It costs $150 and has a 48 megapixel camera.

The Redmi sub-brand of Xiaomi will be making affordable devices that will be sold through e-commerce websites. This will also enable the brand to expand to other countries without the considerable overhead.

The handset’s specs include a 6.3 inch Full HD+ 19.5:9 display, a Snapdragon 660 processor with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Additional features include a fingerprint sensor, Bluetooth 5.0, microSD card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack, and even an IR blaster.

It packs a 48 megapixel rear camera sensor which is made by Samsung. It’s aided by a 5 megapixel depth sensor while there’s a 13 megapixel front camera. All of this is backed up by a 4,000mAh battery.

Redmi is now taking pre-orders for the device in China. Prices start at RMB 999 which is around $150 for the variant with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It will eventually be released in other markets as well.
