We’ve seen Samsung’s prototype foldable smartphone at SDC 2018, where it was shown that the device could be folded in half and reopened to form a tablet. However Samsung is not alone in developing foldable phones as there have been other companies such as Huawei have confirmed plans of their own.
Now in a video uploaded by Evan Blass, it seems that Xiaomi could be working on something similar as well. The video shows what appears to be a tablet shaped device allegedly made by Xiaomi. The video then shows the person using the device to fold back the left and right side of it where it then transforms into a smartphone shaped device.
Now while Blass has accurately leaked information in the past, it seems that he himself isn’t particularly convinced or sure if this video is authentic or if it could be some elaborate fake, so it’s probably best to take it with a grain of salt. At the same time, even if it is a fake, it does serve as an illustration as to how foldable devices could be used in the future.
The device does look quite thick/fat, but presumably it is because it is a prototype. We are curious as to how an actual foldable phone could look like, but Samsung is expected to launch theirs this year so we’ll probably find out soon enough.
Can't speak to the authenticity of this video or device, but it's allegedly made by Xiaomi, I'm told. Hot new phone, or gadget porn deepfake? pic.twitter.com/qwFogWiE2F
