Volvo Polestar 2 Will Be The First Car To Run Android Automotive

It was back in 2017 when Google said that it would work with car manufacturers on a more integrated version of the Android Auto experience. It’s an extension of the company’s mobile platform into the car which requires a compatible smartphone. Google showed off Android Automotive at I/O 2018 which is a native implementation of the platform. Volvo has now confirmed that it’s all-electric Polestar 2 will be the first car to come with Android Automotive out of the factory.

Android Automotive eliminates the need for a smartphone as the OS runs on the infotainment display itself. The working version that Google showed off at I/O last year was indeed running Android P and the vehicle even had a dedicated Google Assistant button on the steering wheel.

Volvo hasn’t confirmed the final specs of the Polestar 2 but it’s already known that it will be the company’s first all-electric car. The company says it will have 300 miles of range and 400 HP, the car itself will be a four-door “fastback” body type. It’s essentially going to look like a sports sedan.

The Polestar 2 will be the first car to come with Android Automotive from the factory. The in-car version of Google Assistant will be making its debut with this vehicle. Volvo says that the car will be sold in the Tesla Model 3 price range. It’s yet to confirm the actual numbers.
