This is according to an interview that TiVo’s VP of consumer products and services Ted Malone did with TechHive where he confirmed the limitations. According to Malone, “I want 720p 60 [fps]. I’ve done some internal demos proving that 720p 60 [fps] is actually noticeably better than 720p 30. It’s really a battle for resources and just getting it done.”
Note that these limitations won’t be only for the Apple TV, but will also apply to other set-top boxes that support the app, such as Roku, Fire TV, and Android TV. The app has yet to be released and is currently planned to be made available in the later part of the year, so there is still a small chance that TiVo could find a way to improve on the quality of the stream in both resolution and framerate.
After all with more people starting to own 4K TVs at home, it certainly does seem like a pity to only be capable of streaming 720p at 30 FPS.
