Ikea and Sonos had announced a partnership on speakers back in 2017. The companies wanted to merge Sonos products into Ikea furniture and provide customers looking for built-in home sound systems with an affordable option. It has now been confirmed that their line of Symfonisk smart speakers is going to be released in August this year
Some prototypes of their collaborative efforts were shown off last year. Ikea’s part of the bargain is to build internet-connected speakers that run on Sonos software and also work with the latter’s other products.
Since these will be smart speakers, they will allow users to stream music from a variety of different services. The speakers may also have the ability to access smart assistants like Alexa and the Google Assistant. Sonos has said that this new series will fully integrate with Ikea’s existing Trådfri smart devices which include wall outlets and lights.
It has only been said that these speakers are going to be available in August this year. There’s no firm release date yet and it’s also unclear how much they’ll cost. Given that the idea is to offer an affordable alternative to users, these speakers will likely be priced below $150, since Sonos’ current speakers start at this price point.
