However it seems that Sony could be considering pulling out of more markets, at least according to a report from Malaysian tech publication Soya Cincau. The report claims that Sony had previously been quick to launch their new phones in the Malaysian market, but they have yet to launch anything new.
According to the SIRIM registry (sort of like Malaysia’s version of the FCC), there has not been any new Sony smartphones registered since July 2018. The last device that was registered was the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium, which is still being promoted on Sony Mobile Malaysia’s website despite the Xperia XZ3 having been announced at IFA 2018 last year.
This seems to be the same situation for other markets in Southeast Asia, such as Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia where the Xperia Z5 was the last model to be offered in the country. Sony has yet to officially announce anything, but for the reasons we mentioned above, we suppose it’s not surprising if it were true.
