This was followed shortly after by LG who also announced that their TVs would be supporting AirPlay 2, and now according to a report from The Verge, it looks like we can expect the same from Sony as the company’s Android TVs are expected to soon support not only AirPlay 2, but HomeKit which means that Sony’s Android TVs can soon be controlled (ironically enough) by iOS devices.
According to Sony, the initial bunch of devices that will support these features includes the Sony Z9G Series, A9G Series, and X950G Series TVs. Safe to say that some were quite surprised by the announcement, but then again this isn’t necessarily a bad thing as it offers more flexibility for consumers.
There have been rumors in the past that Apple was working on their own television. This was many years ago and nothing has materialized since. However we can’t help but to wonder with all these recent announcements, could this be Apple’s way of getting into the TV business without actually having to make a TV of their own?
