Samsung and Apple have a bit of an odd relationship due to the massive legal battle both companies fought against each other several years ago, but yet both companies appear to still need each other and still work with each other. However it was still a bit of a surprise when Samsung announced that its 2019 smart TVs will come with support for iTunes Movies and TV Shows and AirPlay 2.
While apps to watch TV shows and movies are pretty common in smart TVs, like we said, for Samsung to actually announce the support for Apple’s own services and even Apple’s own wireless protocols is a bit of a surprise, but it’s a good one. This means that if you have any shows or movies bought from iTunes, you’ll be able to enjoy it on Samsung’s smart TV without needing an Apple TV or mirroring your laptop.
The support for AirPlay 2 also means pretty much the same, where Apple users can stream content from their devices seamlessly to the smart TVs. For those who might have the 2018 Samsung smart tvs, not to worry because support for those new features will arrive via a firmware update later on, but the 2019 models are expected to launch with it at the beginning of spring.
We have heard rumors a long time ago that Apple might be planning its own lineup of smart TVs. That has yet to materialize, obviously, but this could be as close as we can get for now.
